About
This website is about my work and my interests. Throughout most of my career I have been working in the field of surveillance of infectious diseases, first in Malta, where I come from, and later in Denmark, where I now reside.
My work as a co-ordinator of an EU vaccine-preventable disease surveillance network (EUVAC.NET) has focused on measles since this disease is targeted for elimination from Europe by 2010. The network involves the participation of 32 countries (map below): 27 EU Member States, three EFTA countries (Iceland, Norway and Switzerland) and two candidate countries (Croatia and Turkey). Since the combined measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine became included in all national childhood vaccination programmes, rubella (German measles) was later also targeted for elimination.
